Emergency Shelter

Emergency Shelter Information

In the event of long term power outages, severe weather, or extreme heat, the Bridgewater Senior Center will be open to residents in need of emergency shelter. The Senior Center has an emergency generator to power the building, providing electricity, heat/air conditioning, running water, and a safe place to sleep if necessary. The Senior Center is located at 132 Hut Hill Road.In general, if power is out for an extended period of time, and temperatures are below freezing, the Emergency Shelter will be opened. If you are able to make telephone calls, please call ahead to confirm the Senior Center has been opened, 860-355-3090.

The Department of Emergency Management urges all residents to keep a corded telephone in case of power outages. It is also important to know that if you have Charter telephone service, it will not work during power outages unless you have a battery back-up, even if you are using a corded telephone.

Please contact the Emergency Management Director, Justin Planz at 203-648-6691, or First Selectman, Bill Stuart at 203-788-2122 in the event that you need emergency shelter.
