| Each year the Assessor compiles the list of all property in Town as of October 1st. The Board of Finance sets the mill rate after the Town budget is approved. The taxes are calculated by multilplying the 70% assessment of each property on the Grand List by the mill rate and are then billed by the Tax Collector. | | |

When are taxes due? Real estate and personal property taxes are due on July 1st and January 1st. Payments for July must be postmarked by August 3rd. January installments must be postmarked by February 1st. Any taxes of $100 or less are due in July. Motor vehicle taxes are due in one installment in July. Delinquent motor vehicle tax holders will be reported to the Department of Motor Vehicles. This will prevent the delinquent tax holder from registering any vehicles until the taxes are paid in full. For immediate clearance, payments must be paid in cash or bank check. All bills will be sent prior to July 1st. Supplemental motor vehicle bills will be sent out in December and due in January. Failure to receive a tax bill does not invalidate the tax or interest. Please contact our office if you have changed your mailing address. If you have sold a vehicle and returned the plates please contact the Assessor at 860-355-9220. |
Motor Vehicles The bill covers the period 10/1/08 through 9/30/09. If a vehicle was replaced after 10/1/08 and the registration was transferred to another vehicle, this bill is still due. You will receive an automatic credit for this vehicle on a supplemental bill in January 2010. For vehicles sold, stolen, totally destroyed and the registration was not transferred to another vehicle, or if you have moved and registered the car out of state, you may be eligible for a credit. To obtain credit, you must furnish proof as required by the Assessor. |
